Colorado...

In February 2002, I flew out to Colorado Springs to visit my friend Mark - a guy that I met in school at Auburn, who ended up living in Munich back when I was living in Vienna. Being earth roamers, Alabamians, and Auburn alumni who both speak Deutsch, we just had to become friends!

This was my first trip to Colorado since I lived in Vail in the winter of 1994! (It was also the first time I had been skiing since I left Austria!!! Yipes!!!) It was great to see the Rocky Mountains, to breathe crisp, fresh, mountain air and to drink such clear, clean tap water. Colorado is really God's country - you feel healthier every minute you're there. It's mecca to tree-huggers, vegetarians, and bikers... and people who need a little solitude. Colorado is a very quiet place - very peaceful.

While I was there, we went to Ski Cooper, a little mom and pop ski area near Leadville. And we went motorcycle riding up to Pike's Peak and the Garden of the Gods - both of which overlook Colorado Springs.

Kim's List of the Best of Colorado:

Hanging out with the tree-hugging, granola-munching people that live out there.

Skiiing - particularly in Vail's back bowls - most particularly in China Bowl.

Having dinner at Bart & Yetti's in Vail.

Seeing mountains in every direction.

Fresh air.

Maggie is a yellow lab who just celebrated her 2nd birthday! She loves to run and play in the snow!

Mark became a snow-boarder shortly after moving to Colorado Springs - and hasn't skiied since!

I was skiing past this wooded area and had to stop and capture the sun streaming through the trees. It looked even prettier through my ski goggles - it glowed!

Here I am on one of Mark's eight motorcycles. Four are Harleys! (Yes, ladies, he is single - but he buys cars and motorcycles with all the money he would be using to buy you diamonds.)

The Garden of the Gods is a park on the edge of Colorado Springs that has some seriously freaky rock formations.

This is Mark with the Garden of the Gods in the background.

A local artist created these unusual wind mills for his front yard. I think they're beautiful!!!

More rocks in the Garden of the Gods.

Mark's house

Pike's Peak

Mark's house is very typical of homes across Colorado. Most people out there live in an old, wooden, square house. The big, elegant chalets that you see in Colorado are vacation homes owned by celebrities and miscellaneous wealthy people. Thanks to the influx of Californians, the cost of living is very high.
