Arizona's Grand Canyon
and Utah's Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks

GUEST REPORTER:  Sherry Barron, an earthroaming mom from north Florida...

To celebrate our 30th anniversary, my husband Glenn and I flew to Las Vegas — which we found hot, smoky, and tacky — and drove to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. We spent two nights there in a cabin in the park enjoying the most fantastic views you can imagine.  We ate dinner at the lodge, and although the food was not so great, we had an awesome view by the window looking out over the canyon. (You have to make dinner reservations far in advance.)  We even saw a California condor.

Next we drove to Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah for two nights — you could really do this park all in one long day.  The canyon formations are awesome and there are several good trails.  The Park Hotel is new and very nice, great cabins available, too.

For our last two nights, we went to Zion National Park.  It is best for hiking with great trails up to the Emerald Pools, back down the Kayenta Trail overlooking the Virgin River, the Riverside Walk into the Narrows, and good stops like the Court of the Patriarchs and Weeping Rock. They have a great lodge, hotel rooms and cabins.

This was one of the best vacations we have ever done — right up there with Switzerland and the Banff area in the Canadian Rockies.
